Notice of Race – 2013 Ski & Sail Regatta

  1. The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing.
  2. CYA prescriptions will apply as well as the Equipment Rules of Sailing to the extent that they apply the rules of the participating classes and this Notice of Race.
  3. If there is a conflict between the official Notice of Race and any Preliminary Notice of Race, the official Notice of Race will take priority.



  1. Advertising will be restricted to Category “C”.


Eligibility and Entry

  1. Skippers wishing to register boats in this event must be “Members of Good Standing” of a recognized yacht or sailing club, or association or National Authority.
  2. Eligible classes are  Laser,  Laser Radial,  Laser 4.7, Laser II, the International Tasar and the 420, the Pirate, The optimist dinghy.



  1. The entry fee for the single-handed boats shall is $20. The entry fee for the double-handed boats shall is $30.
  2. This entry fee is for the water portion of the event only. 
  3. The entry fee for the ski portion of the event is $30 per participant.  

Race Schedule


  1. Saturday April 27th 2013, meet in front  of  Merlins Bar at the base of Blackcomb Mountain for Registration,  we will head up the mountain from there
  2. Registration will take place from 9 am to 10 am
  3. Sunday April 28th. Start of first race at the Old Youth Hostel located at 5678 Alta Lake Road, Whistler, BC will be at 12pm

Sailing Instructions


  1. Sailing Instructions will be available at registration on April 27th. 




  1. Whistler offers many accommodation options.

  4. Camping is available at the whistler campground




  1. The venue for this event will be the Whistler Sailing Association at 5678 Alta Lake Road, racing will take place on Alta Lake.


Penalty System

  1. RRS 44.1 and 44.2 will be in effect for all classes.


  1. The Low Point scoring system in Appendix A4.2 will apply.
  2. Up to 4 runs in the ski race will be done on Saturday April 27th. The Skipper and Crew times will be combined  in the total score. 
  3.  A minimum of 4 races are scheduled to be held on Alta Lake. 
  4. One race is required to be completed to constitute a series.
    1. When 4 races or less have been completed, a yacht’s score will be the total of her race scores.
    2. When from 5 to 9 races have been completed, a yacht’s score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.



    There will be prizes for the top three sailors and skiers  in each class.

    Disclaimer of Liability

    Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4 Decision to Race. The organizing authorities, the Whistler Sailing Association will not accept any liability for material or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during or after the regatta.


    1.  There will be a diner on Saturday Night.
