Great Outdoors Festival at Whistler Sailing

  1. Go Sailing Clinic 

    Open to participants of all levels beginner to advanced, groups will be made according to ability levels.   Cost: $35  per person  

    Schedule: 2 clinics offered. Saturday May 21 and Sunday May 22, 10:00am until 2:00pm

  2. Go Sailing Race 

    Kick off the Racing Season on Alta Lake! Experience in small boats is required. 4 Heats, course to be sailed will be announced at the skippers meeting.   Cost: $25 per person

    Schedule: Sunday May 22nd.

    • 12:30 pm to 5 pm.
    • Registration and check in 12:30pm to 1:30pm
    • Skipper meeting 1:30.
    • 1:30 to 2;15 boat setup and launch
    • First Race 2:30 pm.
    • End of Racing 4:30pm
    • BBQ and snack soon after racing.
    • Awards 5:30 pm
    • Prizes: a) Top 3 Boats  b) Top Family Team (parent+child)
  3. Go Sailing Clinic and Race

    Participate in both activities! Cost: $45 per person

    Schedule:  (See above) Start a 10am for the clinic and be prepared by your coaches in time for the first race.

 

Please note ****For all Activities: 

  • Minimum age to participate is 13
  • Boats and lifejackets are provided (Lifejackets or PFD must be worn at all times on the water)
  • WSA waiver must be signed by each participant.
  • Scoring will be in according to the RRS ( Racing Rules of Sailing )
  • Caution: Spring Conditions, water is still cold. Wetsuits are recommended for Spring Sailing.

Adult Programs


Refresher Course

We also offer a refresher course to dust off your sailing skills.This is designed for sailors with previous skills and experience who have been away from the sport for a while, or who want to improve their existing skills with the help of a dedicated instructor. 

Time: 5:00-9:00 pm. Maximum class size is 8 students. 

Members Clinics

Advanced Sailing Skills Clinics for Members Only. Season Pass Members: Free, Basic/Racing Members: $15

The members clinics will cover the following:

  • Race Starts
  • Laser Sailing
  • Tactics
  • Boat handling skills
  • Advanced Rigging
  • Mark Roundings
  • Video Analysis

TIME: Thursdays from 5:30-8pm
(June 2nd, June 16th, July 7th, July 21st, August 11th, August 25th)

CANSail I

Learn the basics of sailing with experienced instructors; The course will cover terminology, points of sail, knots, rigging, sail trim, tacking, gybing & boating safety including righting a capsized boat.Monday nights course or weekend course, minimum 15 hours of instruction. Sail Canada CAN Sail I certification is possible upon successful demonstration of skills. The CanSail level is a nationwide standardized certification system.

CANSail II

Building on the skills learned in CAN Sail I, at the end of the course the student will be able to skipper his own boat with confidence.
CAN Sail II will cover the following.

  • Mark roundings
  • Advanced sail trim
  • Boat Balance and Body positioning
  • Stop and accelerate.
  • Righting a turtled boat.
  • Buidling confidence and independance.

CanSail II certification is possible upon successful demonstration of skills.

Private Lessons

Private lessons tailored to you are available by request.  This is a perfect option if you would like to learn with a friend or with your family. Maximum of 4 students.

RATES:

  • 2 hour private Lesson $150
  • 3 hour private Lesson $225
  • 4 hour private Lesson $300

What to Bring

Students should bring the following items to the course every day:

1. Water and snack.  There is no food on site.
2. Hat & Sunglasses
3. Sunscreen
4. Towel
5. Change of Clothes
6. Old sneakers or water shoes.  Shoes must have a closed toe and heel.   Flip flops are not allowed!
7. Bathing suit
8. Wind Breaker or waterproof jacket
9.  Clothes appropriate for the weather of the day
