Due to demand, we’ve added two courses to our August line up.   Youth I, which is a Learn to Sail for 8-11 year olds will be offered August 8th – 12th, and Junior I, Learn to Sail for 12-16 year olds was added for August 15-19.   For more information see our Kids Learn to Sail page.

Whistler Regatta Online Registration Available

Online registration is now open for WSA’s first regatta!    WSA is hosting its first regatta on August 13 & 14th, 2011 on Alta Lake at Whistler.  All ages of sailors and classes of dinghys are welcome.

A social on will be held on Saturday evening for all of the races.

Michelle Brodeur joins WSA as coach

Born in Calgary, Alberta, Michelle Brodeur brings 3 years of Canadian Yachting Association Certified Instructor experience to Whistler Sailing. Also a competitive sailor, she taught at the prestigious Glenmore Sailing School where she instructed elementary school children, youth and adult “Learn to Sail “courses. She holds the White Sail level of certification.

In addition to her sailing prowess, she was a Rhythmic Gymnastics coach, and is presently a world-class Snowboarder on the Canadian Development Team.

She is enthusiastic, outgoing and her communication skills really shine in front of kids. Welcome aboard Michelle!

WSA Welcomes New Head Coach Francois Hebert

WSA is pleased to welcome Francois Hebert as our new head coach.   Francois will be heading up our Kids & Youth programs and Adult Sailing Lessons.   Francois has an impressive competitive sailing background and was a member of the Quebec Sailing Team between 2000 and 2006.

Francois is nationally certified with CYA Orange Level III sailing coach and holds National Coach Certification Level  III Theory

 

Some of Francois’ racing accomplishments include:

  • Bronze Medalist Canada Games 2001 Byte Sailboat
  • 5th place Laser East Coast Championships 2005
  • 3rd place Laser Great Lakes Championships 2005
  • Qualified for 2005 Laser World Championships in Fortaleza Brazil
  • 11th Overall in North America in the Laser Class Grand Prix standing

Francois was the recipient of The Miranda Grassi Faraggi award in 2000 for the most dedicated sailor at the Royal St Lawrence yacht Club in Montreal.

In the winter Francois works as a Helicopter Ski Guide at Mike Wiegele helicopter skiing, and a Ski Instructor for Whistler Blackcomb. His skiing certifications include Level IV CSIA , Level III CSCF and Level II CSGA.
