2019 Whistler BC Circuit Regatta
August 24th & 25th 2019

2018 Notice of Race (2019 coming soon). 


    1. The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing.
    2. Sail Canada prescriptions will apply as well as the Equipment Rules of Sailing to the extent that they apply the rules of the participating classes and this Notice of Race.
    3. If there is a conflict between the official Notice of Race and any Preliminary Notice of Race, the official Notice of Race will take priority.


  1. Advertising will be restricted to Category “C”.

Eligibility and Entry

  1. Skippers wishing to register boats in this event must be “Members of Good Standing” of a recognized yacht or sailing club, or association or National Authority.
  2. Eligible classes are: Laser, Laser Radial, Laser 4.7. 420, Pirate, Optimist, Optimist Green and Tasar.
  3. BC circuit points will be awarded to Optimist, Laser Radial and 420 class sailboats.
  4. For the Optimist the following age categories apply
      • Red Fleet: 13 – 15 years of age as of December 31st, 2018 (YOB 2003-2005)
      • Blue Fleet: 11 – 12 years of age as of December 31st, 2018 (YOB 2006-2007)
        • White Fleet: 10 years of age or under as of December 31st, 2018 (YOB >=2008)

Green Fleet: The eligibility of the Optimist Class Green Fleet is subject to the following criteria:

  1. Skippers shall be 14 years of age or under as of December 31st, 2018
  2. Skippers shall not return to Green Fleet competition after having competed in other Optimist fleets (i.e. in White, Blue, Red or similar advanced Optimist fleets) except where no Green Fleet competition was offered at such events; and
    Upon placing three times in 1st, 2nd or 3rd place overall in a regatta, or any combination thereof, a skipper shall advance to his/her appropriate age group fleet (White, Blue or Red).


  1. The entry fee for all single handed classes shall be $65.00 per boat.
  2. The entry fee for all double handed classes shall be $100.00 per boat.
  3. Competitors may pre-register and pay with credit card online at http://whistlersailing.com/. After 17:30 hrs on July 25th a $20/SH or $30/DH late fee will apply and registration will be $85.00 for all single handed classes and $130 for double handed classes.
  4. Athletes may alternatively pay their entry fee during registration and check-in onsite with cash, cheque, or credit card at the Whistler Sailing Association.
  5. Coach fee: free! coaches accompanying their team get dinner & snacks for free.
  6. Dinner tickets for friends and family can be purchased for $20 per person.

Race Schedule

  1. Racing for all classes will take place on Saturday, August 4th, and on Sunday, August 5th , 2017.
  2. Registration and check-in will take place on Saturday August 4th, between 8:00 hrs and 10:30 hrs at Whistler Sailing Association, 5678 Alta Lake Road.
  3. The scheduled time for the warning signal of the first start of the first race on August 4th is 12:00 hrs. The scheduled time for the warning signal of the first start of the first race on August 5th is 11:00 hrs.

    1. The venue for this event will be Whistler Sailing Association located at 5678 Alta Lake Road. Overnight Sailboat storage and launching will take place at WSA.  Click HERE for directions 
    2. Racing will take place on Alta Lake.
    3. Dinner on Saturday evening will take place at the  Whistler Sailing Association Clubhouse.
    4. All Boats must be launched at the Public Boat Ramp Located on the east side of Alta Lake , in the Alta Vista neighborhood. Click here for directions to the Carleton Way Boat Launch
    5. Trailer and overflow parking will be at the end of Camino Drive near the Meadow Park Sport centre. Click Here for Directions from the Boat Ramp (Carelton Way) to Trailer Parking (Camino Drive)
    6. Coach Parking and Athlete Drop-Off  at the venue will be in the gravel lot on the east side of Alta Lake Road, at the top of the steps accessing WSA. Athlete Parking will be down the road at Rainbow Park. Click Here for Directions from the Boat Ramp (Carleton Way) to WSA. 
    7. All Coaches must register on line or Saturday morning at registration.  For Online Registration click HERE
    8. The is a Strict Speed limit of 12km/h on Alta Lake for all motor boats. All coaches are required to obey the speed limit at all times. Failure to obey this rule will result in sanctions from the Race Committee. 
    9. Coaches must have a VHF radio and monitor Channel 69.
    10. Towing of boats across the lake can be arranged by calling WSA Office at 604 229 2291.

Penalty System

  1. RRS 44.1 and 44.2 will be in effect for all classes.


  1. The Low Point scoring system in Appendix A4.2 will apply.
  2. One race is required to be completed to constitute a series.
    1. When 4 races or less have been completed, a yacht’s score will be the total of her race scores.
    2. When from 5 to 9 races have been completed, a yacht’s score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
    3. When 10 or more races have been completed, a yacht’s score will be the total of her race scores excluding her two worst scores.


There will be prizes for the top three sailors in each class.

Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4 Decision to Race. The organizing authorities, the Whistler Sailing Association will not accept any liability for material or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during or after the regatta.


There will be a dinner on Saturday Night. This is included in the priced of registration. Additional tickets for friends or family are $20 each and are available online, or at the registration desk.
