The Resort Municipality of Whistler has updated Whistler Sailing that the Alta Lake Vessel Operation Restriction Regulation (VORR) Application will include an exemption for Whistler Sailing as the association operates safety boats on Alta Lake. Whistler Sailing Association (WSA) is leading the way with 2 Torqeedo 9hp electric motors, financed by fundraising and help from a generous donor. WSA is eager to convert all the engines to electric as finances permit. To purchase an 8hp Torqeedo electric motor in 2021 is $15,000 (which includes, motor, batteries, technical equipment, shipping and taxes.) There are, in total, 7 motorized boats required for instruction, student safety and to spread out the instructors/students on the lake. All engines are maintained in top shape. As lake-users and locals, WSA is very concerned about preserving Alta Lake. As soon as the financial means are available, Whistler Sailing Association will convert to electric motors.
